SH 130 Concession Co.

Project: 2026 Redesign
CMS: WordPress
WCAG Compliance: AA

SH 130 Concession Company operates the only American-owned toll road concession in the country, a 41-mile stretch connecting Austin and San Antonio that gives drivers a faster, safer alternative to I-35 congestion.

Traffic on SH 130 has grown 86% since 2019, with heavy truck traffic up nearly 130% as freight haulers, families, and daily commuters all found their way to the fast lane. But mysh130.com hadn't kept pace. A site meant to build trust in a brand working hard to earn back driver confidence needed an upgrade in speed, security, and usability of its own.

Monkee-Boy takes the wheel.

Priority Goals

  • Clear Way Forward - Deliver real-time traffic, advisories, ramp names, and toll rates through an interactive map that keeps drivers informed before they need it.

  • The Better Route - Spotlight SH 130's safety, speed, and reliability to make the case for choosing it over I-35.

  • Smarter Workflows - Streamline support through automated integrations, giving the team less to manage and users faster answers.

  • Security for the Long Haul - Modernize security setup, monitoring, and maintenance with enterprise-grade hosting and controls that meet SH 130's IT requirements, protecting both the site and its drivers.

  • Room for Every Driver - Meet ADA compliance (WCAG AA) and offer an English/Spanish toggle to make toll rates, advisories, and trip planning accessible to all.

Challenges

  • Standing Out - Toll sites tend to blend together, so SH 130 needed a brand evolution that made it stand out without losing its identity.

  • Plan & Persuade - The Trip Planner needed to be intuitive for route and cost planning, while also encouraging toll tag purchases.

  • One Clear Answer - With two segments carrying their own toll rates and qualifications, the Trip Planner needed to keep that split easy to follow so every trip estimate landed accurately.

  • Traffic in Context - A live traffic feed risked making SH 130 look busier than it really is, so the map needed to show I-35's traffic alongside it, giving drivers honest, side-by-side context rather than a skewed picture.

Charting the Course First

Before a single pixel went down, Monkee-Boy needed a map of its own. The Monkee-Boy team built out audience personas to understand who actually uses mysh130.com, from commuters chasing a faster route to truckers moving freight to families planning a weekend drive to Seguin. From there, the team audited the existing site alongside competitors across the toll road industry, then turned those insights into a purpose-built sitemap grounded in real user needs rather than guesswork.

Only once that foundation was in place did design begin. The payoff: an information architecture that gets commuters to toll rates and truckers to the trip planner without either one wading through content meant for someone else.

From a Logo to a Look

SH 130 arrived with a strong foundation to build on, with a distinct logo and an established color palette. The Monkee-Boy team took those core elements and built out a fuller brand system around them: new type treatments, layout patterns, and visual elements that gave the brand room to grow beyond a single lockup.

Photography rounded out that foundation. SH 130 brought a deep library of crisp, well-framed shots of open road, rolling hills of wildflowers, and clear Texas sky. Monkee-Boy built the site to let those images breathe, with wide hero shots and generous imagery throughout, because the serenity of driving SH 130 (no bumper-to-bumper stress, no gridlock) is one of the best arguments for choosing it. An open, sunlit highway does more convincing than any stat block. A new community blog extends that welcome, giving SH 130 a home for the local stories, partnerships, and neighbors that make up life along the corridor.

Every Mile Planned

SH 130 only operates the southern 41 miles of the highway, but a driver's trip sometimes doesn't stops there. The Trip Planner accounts for the full 91-mile stretch, pulling in the northern segment's rates and qualifications so drivers heading toward Georgetown get just as complete a picture as those heading to Seguin.

Users can start from a handful of common trips or build a custom route, choosing entry and exit points from a simple form or straight off the map itself. Submit it, and the planner breaks down the full cost with and without a toll tag, gantry by gantry, so there's no guessing and no surprise bill later. It's not just a calculator, it's the moment a curious driver decides SH 130 is worth the toll.

A Rate for Every Ride

Not every driver wants to plan a whole trip. Sometimes they just want the numbers. The Toll Rates page gives them exactly that, rates for common trips or a full gantry-by-gantry breakdown, whichever fits the moment.

A simple tab system lets drivers select their vehicle classification, each paired with an icon and description, so a driver in a two-axle pickup isn't stuck guessing whether they count as a "Class A" vehicle. The result is a fast, accurate answer for anyone who just needs the price before they merge on.

Seeing Is Believing

SH 130's whole pitch rests on being the calmer alternative to I-35, and the Traffic Advisories tool makes that case in real time. Drivers can check current conditions on SH 130 itself, but they can also see what's happening on I-35 right alongside it, backups, slowdowns, the whole congested picture.

Because SH 130 rarely has much to report, the comparison does most of the talking. When I-35 is crawling and SH 130 is clear, the extra few dollars in tolls stops feeling like a cost and starts feeling like a bargain.

And the Results Hit Full Speed!

All project goals were accomplished, and SH 130's overall site quality sped ahead. Some highlights include:

Accessibility 15%

Increase in Google Lighthouse Score (from 85 to a perfect 100)

SEO 8%

Increase in Google Lighthouse Score (from 92 to a perfect 100)

The Road Doesn't End at Launch

Launching the new mysh130.com was a milestone, not a finish line. Monkee-Boy continues to work alongside SH 130 Concession Company as a long-term digital partner, keeping the site secure, accessible, and ready for whatever the next stretch of road brings, including the smart integrations that keep driver questions and inquiries moving to the right place.

Maintenance for the Long Haul

mysh130.com serves drivers making real-time decisions, so staying online isn't optional. Through its Essential Security plan, SH 130 gets uptime monitoring, monthly WordPress core, theme, and plugin updates, plugin audits, and regular health checks from Monkee-Boy, with ticket-based support whenever questions or enhancements come up. That care extends to the integrations drivers and staff rely on daily, from the AI-powered FAQ chatbot that answers common questions and points visitors to the right contact channel, to the HubSpot-connected forms that send every inquiry and newsletter sign-up straight into SH 130's CRM. The result is a site that runs as reliably as the highway it represents.

Accessibility as an Ongoing Mile Marker

Accessibility isn't a one-time build. It's revisited regularly. Monkee-Boy performs periodic accessibility testing, flagging opportunities to improve as standards and user needs evolve, so mysh130.com stays usable for every visitor, not just the ones who visited at launch.
